Ted Nugent: Black Americans Should Be Profiled, Like Dogs

Ted Nugent, the perpetually provocative hard rock guitarist, said earlier this week that black Americans should be profiled in the same manner that different breeds of dogs are considered dangerous.

Nugent made the comments on entertainer Nick Cannon's podcast. The two riffed on race for several minutes until Nugent compared recent cases of strife in race relations to "storm clouds" and dogs.

"If a Dalmatian has been biting the children in the neighborhood, I think we're going to look for a black-and-white dog," he said.

"I think that typically when you see the -- I don't even remember the term they use -- but the gangs of blacks lately that have been just been going down the downtown streets and breaking windows on cars," Nugent continued. "Over and over again, I watch the news, and here's a rape and here's a burglary and here's a murder in Chicago. Twenty-nine shot, 29 blacks shot by 29 blacks. At some point, you've gotta be afraid of black-and-white dogs if the Dalmatian is doing the biting."

The racially charged comments are nothing new from Nugent, who insists he is "anti-racist" because of his musical tributes to black musicians like Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry. Most recently, he joked that he wouldn't mind shooting residents of Los Angeles' South Central neighborhood with a machine gun from a helicopter.

The Coalition to Stop Gun violence recently started a petition to ask the National Rifle Association to remove Nugent from the organization's board of directors.

Each day that the sun rises is another day I’m blessed to see, for I spent a many nights on bending knees to come such along way, from eating government cheese.  Straight out of the Projects to becoming teachers, doctors, lawyers, leaders, and me; everything they said we would never be.  We tried so hard to forget but time wouldn’t let us, for out of those hard times came strength, closeness, faith, love and gratitude for what we never realized we had.  We can achieve when we start believing in ourselves.  We learned that black is the most beautiful color of all because without it there would be no color.  We learned that it wasn’t what you wore that interpret what you would become and it wasn’t what you drove that will get you there.  I can hold my head high, for I have nothing to be ashamed of.  Because my past don’t defined my future and my goal in life is to be more than I am each day that I’m bless to see.  Therefore I will document my journey and the people that have influence me.  The lives that I touched along the way and maybe I’ll use an IBook to capture my best seller.  Until then the struggle continues.  If you still don’t know me….  RETURNING THIS FALL FROM E'SDROP PUBLISHING

Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn Under Fire For Calling Minority Students 'Dark Ones'

Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn described minority students as "dark ones" during a state legislature subcommittee hearing regarding the adoption of Common Core State Standards.

While testifying against the Common Core, which have been adopted in more than 40 states in an effort to standardize education, Arnn said he took issue with the idea of government interfering with educational institutions and went on to describe a letter he had received from the Department of Education shortly after becoming president at Hillsdale. The letter, he told the committee, said his college "violated the standards for diversity because we didn't have enough dark ones, I guess, is what they meant."

According to Michigan-focused news site MLive, lawmakers at the meeting immediately criticized Arnn for using “offensive” language, but he did not apologize. Instead, Arnn went on to say: “The State of Michigan sent a group of people down to my campus, with clipboards ... to look at the colors of people’s faces and write down what they saw. We don’t keep records of that information. What were they looking for besides dark ones?"

A Michigan Department of Education spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press that officials visited Hillsdale in 1998 for a routine evaluation of the school’s teacher preparation program. During that visit, they noted the ethnicity of the students and faculty members in the program.
 
Several hours after Arnn made his initial statements, Hillsdale College issued an official apology. “No offense was intended by the use of that term except to the offending bureaucrats," read the statement, which was published by MLive. It further said that while Arnn was sorry if offense was taken, his greater concern “is the state-endorsed racism the story illustrates."

Located in Hillsdale, Mich., the small liberal arts institution over which Arnn presides was founded in 1844. According to its website, the school "was the first American college to prohibit in its charter any discrimination based on race, religion or sex, and became an early force for the abolition of slavery.” Hillsdale does not receive state or federal subsidies and avoids “federal mandates and control,” another page on its site says.
 
An alum told MLive he believes Arnn’s comments were misunderstood.

“I think this was Dr. Arnn’s way to indicate that he was offended with what they were doing in taking clipboards and walking around campus to record the color of students’ skin,” James Joseph, a 2010 graduate, told the outlet. “He’s a very magnanimous man with a generous and charitable spirit, but he doesn’t stand on public piety.”

Hillsdale College is notably conservative. In 2012, the Young America Foundation ranked it one of the most conservative colleges in the country. The Hillsdale Collegian also reported that in 2012, Arnn’s most substantial campaign donation was to tea party favorite Congressman Tim Walberg.

Danny Glover Says Second Amendment Prevented Slave Revolts, Conservative Students Petition

Actor Danny Glover discussed the roots of the Second Amendment during a recent college appearance, saying the legislation was ratified to protect against slave revolts. Now, a conservative student group is launching a petition against the school's "leftist bias."

Glover appeared at Texas A&M on Thursday, Jan. 17 for an event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when the conversation turned to the right to bear arms, according to RawStory. Glover proceeded to discuss the Second Amendment, and how it was written to protect the institution of slavery and to help secure Native American land.

“I don’t know if you know the genesis of the right to bear arms,” Glover said. “The Second Amendment comes from the right to protect themselves from slave revolts, and from uprisings by Native Americans. So, a revolt from people who were stolen from their land, or revolt from people whose land was stolen from, that’s what the genesis of the Second Amendment is.”

Texas A&M officials didn't know Glover was going to talk about the Second Amendmet, according to Campus Reform, a conservative activist group. “I had no idea, we really didn’t know that topic was coming up,” the director of Texas A&M’s Memorial Student Center, Luke Altendorf, told Campus Reform. “Someone was asking a question about activism, I think that’s where some of that came from.”

The video of Glover was first posted by the conservative student organization, Texas Aggie Conservatives. The group has since started a petition against Texas A&M hosting "radical leftist speakers" who promote "leftist bias," and using school funding to do so.

Despite the fact that the petition groups Glover's comments under the umbrella of "far-left agenda," some constitutional scholars have shared his same theories.

Author and radio personality Thom Hartmann describes how the Second Amendment was written to "preserve the slave patrol militias in the southern states, which was necessary to get Virginia's vote" in a blog post for Truth-Out.org.

Mother Jones also posited the theory in a 2008 article. "[Some] scholars believe the founders enshrined the right to bear arms in the Constitution in part to enforce tyranny, not fight it," Mother Jones reporter Stephanie Mencimer wrote. Explaining, "the 'well-regulated militias' cited in the Constitution almost certainly referred to state militias that were used to suppress slave insurrections."
