Harry Belafonte on why he's dissapoint in Jay-Z & Beyounce'

"I think one of the great abuses of this modern time is that we should have had such high-profile artists, powerful celebrities.  But they haave turn their backs on social responsibility.  That goes for Jay-Z and Beyounce', for example.  Give me Bruce Springsteen, and now you're talking.  I really think he is black."

In the words of Barry White,  "There is no more words to this song."  In my own words, It's better to be loved for doing something than to be hated for doing nothing.  This goes without saying in my generation and the one to come.  Until you figure this meaning out, you will never know what this struggle has been about.

It was Harry Belafonte who first brought BUCK AND THE PREACHER to the attention of his lifelong friend, Sidney Poitier.  The story, written by the true adventures of the Exodusters: bands of ex-slaves who traveled across American West after the Civil War.

Poitier - who had always wondered where the blacks were in the all-white Westerns he had seen as a child-agreed to co-star and produce the project with Belafonte.  BUCK AND THE PREACHER opened on April 19, 1972.

My father took me to the ThunderBird Drive In Movies when I was just a buck myself and I always treasured this movie and that time with him as one of the best memories of my childhood growing up.  It was also as Mr. Poitier pointed out the first Black Cowboy Film I have ever seen.  I shared this movie with my little one and the message that was being taught even then, when the Indian Chief asked Buck, "Now you want us to help you when you sided with them to put us here?" He looked like a fool but the answer was yes.  Mr. Belafonte gave us Beat Streets to A White Man's Burdon and I have nothing but respect for what he's given of himself to us.  As I have said and will again, It's better to be loved for doing something than to be hated for doing nothing.  For THINKING OUT LOUD, I'm E.
