BLACKVOICES
Idris Elba: “The less I talk about being black, the
better”
“I’m so bored of answering are there difference between
blacks and white actors opportunities?
Yes, there are. It’s been
said. I’d rather a young black actor
read about success as opposed to how tough it was. I get these roles because I can act, that’s
it. Hopefully that’s it. The less I talk about being black the
better.”
TO BLACK TO TALK
ABOUT IT
He should be proud to talk about
being black and what he have accomplished against many odds because of his
color and never forget it. There are thousand upon thousand just as talented as
he if not more, in the Jet Magazines and agencies around the countries that
want find work because of their own race refusing to talk about it. Boast it to the mountain tops and until the
damn cows come home if need be, because the more noise that you are willing to
make, the more attention you will draw to this problem. Look at how many black men and women have to
have a white counter part in a roll that don’t have any significance to the
movie other than giving that white person a job and keeping another equally
qualified black person from getting the role.
I guess by not talking about it, both sides can pretend that there is no
problem. Something which they have been doing for years and we said nothing
because as a black person many been taught to think about no one but them
selves once they reach the top. When
were the last time you seen a black person stand up and be heard speaking out
on the behalf of another black, but we will do it for a white person in a heart
beat or to discredit another black? How many times have you watched a entire
movie and saw only three are four blacks which only one had a speaking role and
he or she were best friend with four other whites and their love interest or
partner is white? Thinking out loud I no
that makes you sick seeing over and over, but no one is talking about it or
wants to hear it, so does that work for you Idris being too black to talk about
it? Just think, when you don’t talk
about it I guess that’s when you start thinking that you white. For THINKING OUT LOUD, I’m E. L. PLEASANT
